Every time I hear country music it’s very painful to listen to. Now I normally do not listen to country music, but my little sister loves to listen to it and I just groan in disgust whenever she puts on Rascal Flatts or any other country music band. I just don’t understand why people would listen to this genre of music. Like for one, I don’t know how can people stand like the sound of the music. It has like a weird twangy sound or the sound of a banjo. Country music is just not my style I can’t relate to it and it’s hard to see how people can like this genre of music. I can say that I don’t hate all country music, but most of it, if I hear it, I tend to run out of the room or switch the station.
When I came to figure out why people seemed to like country music, the response that I got was that it was “full of insight into the human condition” and overall it was that they liked the lyrics. I can see how some people think that it would relate to them. It is possibly how they grew up. Also country music is like “American” music. So if you’re a real American then you like country music and can relate to the stories that are told. There really isn’t much said about how people who like country music why they like the way it sounds, they just seem to like it. People just like it because it sounds great and that’s really what I could get out of it. It is very different from any other genre of music and that might be why they like it along with the lyrics that the enjoy singing along to.
I think it all depends on who you are and where you are coming from if you like country or if you like heavy metal. Some people can relate their lives to the lyrics of country and that is why they enjoy listening to it. To be honest I can say that I’ve listened to some country songs and say that they aren’t that bad. So I can see why some people might like country music. The ones that I like seem to be more pop rockish than country and I can relate to the lyrics otherwise I’m not exactly sure how people can like it. I mean yes they have good lyrics some times, but I’m not sure about the sound. It all depends on how you feel and grew up. It is all culturally influenced. I personally like music that is expressed in a way that their deepest feelings are put into song and I hear a scream or two in the music I hear. Now for others they probably don’t understand why I like that kind of music. I think I have somewhat of an understanding now why people like country music since they like the lyrics for the most part, but I do have my doubts and may never truly understand why people like country music.
Other reviews for country music:
I totally agree with your statements, I think you dipped into just about everything you needed too. Good explanations, but just a little repetative. I would also include lyrics of a country song, and explain down to the roots of the lyrics why you don't like it. Good Job
ReplyDeleteI think Nick has a good point when he says that this review is lacking in the details department. Your second paragraph, especially, is so vague that, while it is very sympathetic to country listeners, it doesn't really offer any insight. It just says that people who like it, like it.
ReplyDeleteThe root of this problem is that this piece, whatever its virtues, isn't really a review. I can't tell that you actually listened to an album here (which was an important part of the assignment!). You links to other reviews show that you at least went out and found some information, but all but one of the links are just tacked on at the end, so they don't really help you get anything done here except to say that there's no accounting for taste. We already knew that, didn't we?
Remember, it's not a review unless you actually look closely at something specific! There's no way around that, I'm afraid.
